PARCELS: MFAS IN PROGRESS
A Second Sunday Reading Series
Presenters to be announced soon
A new free reading series has come to town, and this isn't one to miss. Parcels: MFAs in Progress, showcases the talents of the up-and-coming poets and authors in the University of Central Florida's Creative Writing Masters of Fine Arts program. Come to Urban ReThink, nestled in Downtown around the corner from Lake Eola, on the second Sunday of each mont to hear fresh, contemporary poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Readings begin at 7pm and will run for about an hour with breaks for drinks and socializing.
Brian Crimmins, leader of the Parcels Organizational Committee and an MFA student studying creative nonfiction, stated, "I'm thrilled we are able to provide opportunities to showcase emerging voices in the local literary community. Creating a place for MFA students to share works in progress not only benefits the students, but also those interested in hearing new fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry."
"I'm really excited to see this come to fruition,” MFA poet Kirsten Holt agreed. As a member of the Committee, Holt added, “We have such a diverse group of grad students, most of whom dabble in multiple genres, and media outside the written word. It'll be lovely to showcase a broad range of talents and ideas.”
“Parcels are packages, gifts. To be given, and to be received,” explained Leslie Salas, fiction MFA student and member of the Committee. “We hope you'll enjoy what Parcels has to offer to the community.”
This Month's installment will feature the works of Brendon Barnes, Sean Ironman, Ryan Haskins, Lorri Lores, and others TBA.
Parcels: MFAs in Progress is a monthly reading series organized by current University of Central Florida graduate students pursuing Masters of Fine Arts degrees in Creative Writing, and hosted by Urban ReThink. The reading series aims to share the talents of the current UCF MFA students with the Orlando community.
