Two hours ago, the NBA announced that Dwight Howard had been traded. As a franchise-long Magic fan, my first inclination was to walk into walls or off of buildings--not so much because of the trade but because of the ridiculousness that led to its necessity. My second inclination is to put it in perspective and focus on the magic closer to home.
I took the accompanying picture a couple of days ago. In recent weeks, Urban ReThink has experienced a surge of energy and task-conquering--thanks in large part to our cadre of new interns.
If you've attended a couple of evening events in this summer, you've probably seen Devon Blade swooping the room with his mighty camera. Devon's a film student at Full Sail. He's the main force behind the new series of videos (set to launch in the next few days) archiving our evening events. We see a future in comedy as well as film for him, but, as a result of the first broomstick pony-making workshop, he may forego both to focus on crafting alien horse creatures.
Speaking of all things broomstick pony, Crystal Dale has done wonders (in just a few short weeks) in helping to launch BroomstickPonyDerby.com, facebook.com/broomstickponyderby, and our @broomstickpony Twitter page. Crystal's a recent Entertainment Business Bachelor's graduate from Full Sail, and she's been absolutely terrific in her attempts to bring the ponies to Thornton Park businesses as well as marketing and archiving the lead-up to the Derby.
While Crystal's not in the accompanying picture, her fellow recent Full Sail graduates, Vanessa Alarcon and Dave Martin, are. Both have just wrapped up their Master's in Entertainment Business. Vanessa's creating and supervising our upcoming crowdfunding effort (launching in September!), and Dave's captaining the "systematization" of our evening programming experience. Like Devon and Crystal, they've both dazzled us with their positivity, productivity, and mad skills.
What a joy to welcome these most valuable players to our dream team. You'll see their magic in the weeks and months ahead.
